Sodium hexametaphosphate (SHMP) is a hexamer of composition (NaPO3)6.Sodium hexametaphosphate of commerce is typically a mixture of polymeric metaphosphates, of which the hexamer is one, and is usually the compound referred to by this name. It is more correctly termed sodium polymetaphosphate.

Used in industries of oil field, paper production, textile, dyeing, petroleum, chemistry, metallurgy and construction materials etc. as water softener, flotation selecting agent, disperser and high temperature adhesive: In food industry it used as an additive, nourishing agent, quality improver, PH regulator, metal ions chelating agent, adhesive and leavening agent etc.
